Prof. Dr. oec. Matthias Brauer is professor of Strategic and International Management at the University of Mannheim. Previously, he held positions as associate professor of Strategic Management at the University of St. Gallen (2005-2012) and Luxembourg (2012-2013). Additionally, he received various other offers from leading European business schools (e.g. Rotterdam School of Management, Warwick Business School).

Prof. Brauer engages in close dialogue and interaction with companies and government institutions to ensure that research and teaching activities are geared both towards scientific excellence and practical relevance.

His primary areas of expertise are corporate strategy (i.e. acquisitions, divestitures, downsizing) and governance. Recent manuscripts on these research topics have appeared or are forthcoming in leading international journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, British Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Journal of Management and Governance, and Corporate Governance: An International Review. For his research activities, he was awarded several national and international awards by various institutions, such as the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, the Latsis Foundation,  and the University of St. Gallen.

In terms of executive education and company inhouse programs, he regularly teaches courses on Strategic Management, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Restructuring and Mergers & Acquisitions, and works as an instructor and coach for several multinational companies in the automotive, financial services, healthcare and utilities industries. For his training and teaching activities, he received several awards, such as the MBA Best Lecturer Award of the University of St. Gallen (2011, 2012).
